Botox, Daxxify, or Jeuveau: Which Wrinkle Relaxer Is Actually Right for You?
I get this question almost every week in consultations, and I love it because it means patients are paying attention. A few years ago, most people just said "I want Botox." Now, my patients are coming in having done their research, and they want to understand the difference between Botox, Daxxify, and Jeuveau.
First, let’s talk about what they have in common. Botox, Daxxify, and Jeuveau are all neuromodulators. They relax the muscle contractions that cause expression lines. For example, what comes to most of our minds are crow's feet, the elevens between your brows, and forehead creases.
What differs between these three neuromodulators is the formulation, how fast you see results, how long those results last, and in one case, a little something extra.
Botox
Botox is the original and still the most widely studied neuromodulator on the market. Most patients have heard of it, many have tried it, and there's good reason it's remained the standard for over two decades. It works reliably, I know exactly how it behaves, and for patients who've had consistent results with it over the years, there's often no reason to switch.
Jeuveau
Jeuveau, sometimes called "Newtox", is a newer formulation that works similarly to Botox. In my experience it performs comparably, and some patients prefer it. Honestly, for most people it comes down to personal preference. If you've tried Botox and felt like the results weren't quite what you were hoping for, Jeuveau is worth exploring. There are patients who respond better to one than the other, and the only way to know is to try.
Daxxify and why it's become my personal favorite
Daxxify is what I reach for most often when I'm guiding patients who are open to a recommendation.
Daxxify is the only neuromodulator formulated with a peptide instead of human serum albumin as a stabilizer. Peptides have skin-conditioning properties, and patients often notice something beyond just muscle relaxation. That “something” is often described as a glow that subtly improves the look of the skin in the treated area. I've noticed it in my own patients consistently enough that I pay attention to it.
Beyond that, Daxxify tends to kick in faster than Botox. Many patients see results within a day or two rather than the typical week. And it lasts longer. Where Botox typically holds three to four months, Daxxify often runs four to six. For patients who are busy, that extra time between visits is super valuable!
The tradeoff is that it's newer. The long-term data set isn't as deep as Botox's, though what exists is strong. I think about that with patients and I'm transparent about it.
So which one should you choose?
If you're new to neuromodulators and want to start with the most established option, Botox is a reasonable first choice. If you have a preference based on prior experience, I'll follow your lead.
If you're open to my recommendation and you're looking for something that performs well, kicks in quickly, and gives you a bit more time between appointments, I'm going to talk to you about Daxxify.
We'll figure out the right fit in your consultation. Hope to see you soon!
